Most of the offices and halls are painted too. Tom Starr, Tom Davenport, Dave Phoenix and Jack Moran have all pitched in in some way to get this project done.

92.7 The Drive Movin on Up!! the construction diary.....

Hey all.

Most of you dont know that I have a pretty good carpentry background. Going all the way back to Fred Buhrlins building class at UFA.

That said I have been given the task of getting our new studios and office space in shape for the stations big move.

After week one I can report that things are moving along well. The cabinetry has arrived and I have installed it, built a small "knee wall" and we are waitng for the countertop guys to come and measure on monday! The new production studio is moving along too. There was a wall to remove, electrical work, a door to remove and a bi%$h of a glued down carpet to yank out. That room is ready to have some sheetrock installed tomorrow.

The new studios are still in the Jim Brock building on Genesee St. we are moving from the second floor rear to the third floor front. THe new drive fm studio has a great view of the whole area!! I am so psyched to get up there! The view is really great!

I am so happy and proud to be here after so many years in the radio business. The station has done, in less than a year, what stations want to do in three years.

Thanks to you guys!! The best crowd in the world!!

I will give you another report next week! New electronics on the way!!

PS. photos posted on The Drive facebook page!

A sure sign of winter!!

Many of you count the sure signs of winter as the changing of the leaves. Super-furry catepillars or the on-set of cold mornings. Not me.

I know winters coming when the hairdryer starts to whir. WHIRRR for 30 minutes at a time because i have lots of hair and if i don't dry it during the colder months, I walk around in a varitable wet blanket. Summer no problem, it drys on its own. Not winter. Whirrrrr, hair dryer. Sometimes drying all this hair takes so long. The room gets hot and i start to sweat. Right after i get out of the shower. DOH!

The other big Whirr came just last weekend. That is the "shrink film on the windows", winter ritual. Those of us who live in older homes know the drill. Clean the woodwork, apply the double-sided tape, cut the shrink film to size(leave a little extra). Swear at the stuff that you have to peel off of the double-sided tape. It never peels of easily. Then  Whirrrr..... until the plastic film shrinks and tightens up! Of course,if your a pro like me. You know to leave a little slack in windows that get alot of direct sunlight. The film will shrink further and that leads to popped corners. Allowing the cold air to rush in as if it were driven by a fan.

SO. WHirrr looks like winters almost here! Tug Hill is looking at 5 inches tonight!

WHIRRRR.........................................

 come on spring!

Eagles vinyl boxed set due out.

As the Eagles continue their 2013 tour, the six studio albums they released on Asylum Records between 1972 and 1979 will soon be available on vinyl once again — this time in a limited-edition box set called, um, ‘The Studio Albums 1972-1979.’

Here are the albums you’ll get:

‘Eagles’
‘Desperado’
‘On The Border’
‘One Of These Nights’
‘Hotel California’
‘The Long Run’

Each LP features faithfully reproduced original album packaging, and there are even two special artwork upgrades: The sleeve of ‘Eagles’ will fold out into a poster (as the group intended), and ‘Hotel California’ will include a replica of the original poster with band photos in full color for the first time.

‘The Studio Albums 1972-1979′ set is limited to 5,000 copies, each of which is numbered and has a gold foil stamp of the band’s logo. You can pick it up for $149.98 starting Oct. 29.

Inflation strikes tooth fairy!

NEW YORK (AP) - Days of finding a quarter under your pillow are long gone. The Tooth Fairy no longer leaves loose change.

Kids this year are getting an average of $3.70 per lost tooth, a 23 percent jump over last year's rate of $3 a tooth, according to a new survey by payment processor Visa Inc., released Friday. That's a 42 percent spike from the $2.60 per tooth that the Tooth Fairy gave in 2011.

Part of the reason for the sharp rise: Parents don't want their kids to be the ones at the playground who received the lowest amount.

"A kid who got a quarter would wonder why their tooth was worth less than the kid who got $5," says Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist and professor at Golden Gate University.

To avoid that, Brian and Brittany Klems asked friends and co-workers what they were giving their kids. The Klems, who have three daughters and live in Cincinnati, settled on giving their 6-year-old daughter Ella $5 for the first tooth that fell out, and $1 for any others. They say that $5 was enough without going overboard. They didn't want other families to think they were giving too much.

Then Ella found out that one of her friends received $20 for a tooth.

"I told her that the Tooth Fairy has only so much money for every night, and that's how she decides to split up the money," says Brian Klems, 34, a parenting blogger and author of "Oh Boy, You're Having a Girl: A Dad's Survival Guide to Raising Daughters."

Confused about what to give?

Ask other parents what they're giving, says Jason Alderman, a senior director of financial education at Visa. That can at least get you in the ballpark of what your kids' friends are getting, he says. Alderman gave his two kids $1 a tooth.

"I think we we're on the cheap side," he says. Other families gave about $5 a tooth. One family gave their kid an antique typewriter. "I have no idea how they got that to fit under the pillow," he laughs.

Visa also has a downloadable Tooth Fairy Calculator app that will give you an idea of how much parents in your age group, income bracket and education level are giving their kids, says Alderman. The calculator is also available on the Facebook apps page.

How much kids are getting from the Tooth Fairy depends on where they live. Kids in the Northeast are getting the most, according to the Visa study, at $4.10 per tooth. In the west and south, kids received $3.70 and $3.60 per tooth, respectively. Midwestern kids received the least, at $3.30 a tooth.

Then there are the heavy hitters.

After losing her first tooth, 5-year-old Caroline Ries found a $100 bill under her pillow, along with a brand new My Little Pony toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste.

But there was a catch.

Her mother, Nina Ries, also left a note saying that the $100 had to go straight to Caroline's college fund. The Tooth Fairy would give her another $20 to spend anyway she likes if she brushes her teeth every day after lunch for a month. She did, and 30 days later Caroline found $20 under her pillow.

Ries, a 39-year-old lawyer and owner of Ries Law Group in Santa Monica, Calif., says that $120 is a lot to give, but she believes that she is teaching her daughter that education and taking care of your teeth is important. Ries says her friends give their kids about $20 a tooth.

That's way more than the $1 Ries used to get for losing her teeth as a child.

"It's incredible inflation," she says.

The Visa survey results are based on 3,000 phone interviews conducted in July.

I didnt realize tom was born like this??? OR... the birth of a star.

Scientists say material is streaming from the baby star at incredible speed, glowing as it plows into the surrounding gas and dust.

The orange and green light of a newborn star reveals a large, energetic jet moving away from Earth, which is hidden by dust and gas.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — This is one baby picture you won't want to miss.

The ALMA telescope in Chile has captured a close-up of the glowing material spewing from a newborn star.

Herbig-Haro object HH 46/47 is seen as jets emerging from a star-forming dark cloud.

The stunning images show material streaming from the baby star at incredible speed, glowing as it plows into the surrounding gas and dust. Astronomers say these illuminated jets are spewing out faster than ever measured before and are more energetic than previously thought.

The glowing mass is called a Herbig-Haro object, named after U.S. and Mexican astronomers. This one is 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Vela.

ALMA consists of an array of 66 antennas and is relatively new. It's located in one of the driest places on Earth, the Atacama desert.

WHAT WOULD HIS MAKE-UP HAVE BEEN??

Did Gene Simmons Beg Eddie Van Halen To Join Kiss?

Did Eddie really want to join Kiss? Or was it the other way around?

Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has always boasted that in 1982, Edward Van Halen, while expressing his frustration over dealing with David Lee Roth, actually asked if he could join Kiss.

We’re thinking Gene is making a bigger deal out of it then it was. If Eddie really did ask to join Kiss, he probably woke up the next day with a brutal hangover and had a laugh about it with the rest of the band.

But now we have reason to believe that back in 1976 or 1977, it was the other way around – Gene wanted Eddie to join Kiss.

Back in 1995 before the Van Halen News Desk, we published the all Van Halen magazine, ‘The Inside.” While working on an article for the magazine, we inadvertently dug up some interesting info regarding this rumor. We were conducting an interview with Wally “Cartoon” Olney, who was a good friend of Van Halen’s back when they were starting to get big in Pasadena in the mid-seventies. Olney hung out with the band countless times at Eddie and Alex’s house and also attended many of the band’s rehearsals in Roth’s basement.

During our interview with Olney, he mentioned that Alex and Edward would constantly visit the music store where he was employed. One day in the store, the Van Halen brothers told him that Gene Simmons financed a demo tape of theirs, and then Olney mentions something interesting about Gene and Eddie. Here’s the excerpt from our interview:

Olney: Gene tried to recruit Eddie.

The Inside: For Kiss?

Olney: Well, for something. I mean, constantly. I was at Ed’s house several times and Gene had called there and Ed was going, “No, man, I don’t want to play with you.”

The Inside: Gene apparently has said that Ed had asked him if he could join Kiss.

Olney: Wrong. I sat in his bedroom in their old house in Pasadena. The rooms are fucking tight. There was a little bedroom set off the back. I can remember Ed picking up the phone going, “No I don’t want to play,” and telling me, “God, he calls me constantly, and won’t leave me the fuck alone.” He goes, “It was cool that he made that tape for us, but I don’t want to be in a band with him. I’ve got my own band.” I can remember going back to my friends, going, “Guess what? Gene Simmons called Ed!”

This excerpt is from an interview from issue #8 of ‘The Inside’ magazine. ‘The Inside’ was the ALL-VAN HALEN, full color, glossy magazine published by the staff of VHND from 1995 – 2000. It went on to become the band’s official magazine. Most of the 16 issues published are still available here. Watch for our entire interview with Wally Olney to be featured on VHND.com in the future.

THE post Stevie Ray guitar slingers of the early '90's..

I was going through my cd's last night and stumbled upon the Ian Moore band cd. It came out in '94. This got me thinking, with help from The Doctor Jerry Krauss, there was a big boom in guitar slingers after Stevies untimely death in 1990.

Besides Ian who played a great show at Capt. Trips Rainforest Preserve. There were Corey Stevens, http://www.coreystevens.com/ who played a Sylvan beach party. He had some good stuff on "Blue Drops Of Rain & Ordinary Zen". Then there was  the Kenny Wayne Shepherd band. Kenny was about  17 when he hit it big. http://www.kennywayneshepherd.net/ . There was also a guy who played a beach party at Hinkley Chris Duarte. http://www.thechrisduartegroup.com/ He had a great record Texas Sugar/ Strat Magic. I remember building the stage for him. I had to screw a giant tarp into the back of a rented Ryder truck. New Orleans gave us Sonny Landreth, South of I10 was really good. http://sonnylandreth.com/ Of course Johnny Lang was just 15 when he released Lie to me. I remember him opening for Blues Traveler at The Utica Aud.

You may also remember the double team guitar slingers in Arc Angels. Charlie Sexton https://www.facebook.com/CharlieSextonMusic?ref=ts and Doyle Bramhall II http://www.doylebramhall2nd.com/ What a great lp they released with the rythm section fron Stevies Double Trouble. I cant run down this list without mentioning the guy who really did become as big, if not bigger than Stevie Ray. Joe Bonamassa. From his start with Bloodline on, he has become the best living guitarist in the world. Needless to say hes a NY Mills boy. He played many great local shows with Bloodline and Solo in the area. Im sure i may have left some body out. Most of these guys I mentioned here are still doing  stuff, check them out.

A local guy from a legendary local band in town for one show tonight...

Hey all, A friend of mine, Stick Sablicki, who was in a legendary local band years ago is in town and doing a show tonight at the Rt. 69 Steakhouse from 7-9. He has a very long musical legacy. If you are familiar with local rock Sky-church begat the Frogs who begat Vinnie and The Butchers via Paul Angerosa. Stick was the guy who started the band and put Paul in the spotlight. Stick has been around the US including L.A. He now lives in Ohio but is home, so check out the show tonight!

"What would you say??"... "can i hitch a ride??"

Seeing Dave Matthews live is awesome, but for Emily Kraus, it surpassed all expectations. Kraus was on her way to see the singer's show in Hershey, Pa., when her boyfriend spotted a stranded bicyclist. When they pulled over to help, they realized the bicyclist was Dave Matthews. The Grammy award-winning star had gone for a preconcert ride when his tire popped. The couple gave him a ride to his own concert. Matthews invited the couple to dinner, brought them backstage, treated them to front-row seats and gave her a shoutout during the concert (start watching at 0:55).. "All the planets aligned last night — something greater than I'll ever be able to comprehend," Kraus says. [Source]
