Fans of Miley Cyrus have launched an online campaign in an effort to replace "The Star-Spangled Banner" as America's national anthem with the pop star's 2009 hit "Party in the U.S.A."

The plan, which was thought up by one devotee from Redford, Mich., has been outlined in a petition posted on the White House website's We the People page, where citizens are encouraged to post proposals for the government's consideration.
The petition reads: "Obama please make Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA our national anthem. It is what is best for this country." A total of 100,000 signatures are needed by August 1 to have the proposal brought to officials' attention, but so far, the petition had garnered just 579.
