We're pumped to have Shawn at Woodland! Shawn "Big Sexy" Smith was born in May of 1981 and lived in a small town called Boonville, NY. There, is where he found his talent for singing and entertaining. Singing through grade school and high school. After graduating from Adirondack HS he did a brief stint at HCCC, he decided to sign up for the US Army 1999. In 2001, Shawn decided to teach himself guitar which came natural to him. Shortly after, he started a two man acoustic group called POORtIM with friend Justin Smithson (twitter @JustinSmithson). Their energetic and smooth style has captivated CNY audiences and continues to grow. Shawn ended up leaving POORtIM for a year when he was deployed to Fort Hood, Texas from '03 to '04. Shawn would often play guitar for the troops to boost morale. In 2007, he was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq where he was apart of a Personal Security Detail where he was assigned to protect high ranking individuals. While deployed an IED explosion caused him to lose 70% of his hearing in his right ear. Despite this, Shawn has kept his musical dreams alive and ended up joining The band Showtime with fellow POORtIM mate Justin in 2008. Years later Shawn ended up auditioning for the NBC tv show called The Voice and made it to Team Ceelo. (Last spot) Shawn ended up being eliminated in the Battle Round.
